Mount Morrison, Summer

Both Mount Morrison and Mono Jim Peak (reddish peak just this side of Morrison) are visible in this morning scene from the north.  Previously named Monte Diablo, Morrison reaches 12,270+ feet above sea level.  These peaks were named after two men who were killed by escaped convicts in a nearby shoot-out in 1871.  The peaks dominate the landscape above Convict Lake (also re-named as a result of the shoot-out).  The history is very interesting, so you may want to do some web searching for the rest of the story.  Also, if you haven't been to Convict Lake you are in for a visually dramatic surprise.
